CCTV in London - Pro Contra tips advice

Hello London,

Let us see how this goes. My Name is Tom and I am a Senior Security Consultant.

There is only so and so much, that you can learn out of books. Then one can learn a lot through working in the field and so on... but what is still missing then is Feedback, the immense experience of others, may they be users or experts.

In a nutshell - I am happy to share here everything I know.... with anybody who would like to do likewise.

My main field is CCTV Surveillance. So anybody out there kicking this off?

I was wondering how easy it was to base a business on remote CCTV - ie a store / shop has a camera hooked up to an internet connection (wired or wireless) and the data (video/still images) is stored on server ?

This means the customer just needs to worry about camera placement and internet connection - the video is kept centrally.

Is this a valid business idea ?

Hi Paul,

there actually are providers specializing on this kind of setup. It is a good idea and works well for small business and home solutions, which incorporate a few cameras.

I think it is a good business option nevertheless... as it can save the shop owners a lot of money...and still return you quite some profit.

Downside: You would probably end up with lower quality video stream (CIF) or JPEG images upload on motion detection, as even broad band connections will not let you stream D1 resolution video streams of several cameras at the same time.

Pro: Your recordings are safe and cannot be stolen by burglar :-)
